Post-Doctoral position in Geochemistry, Florida State University, USA
The Geochemistry program at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL), Florida State University, seeks a postdoctoral researcher in high-temperature geochemistry and cosmochemistry. The candidate selected is expected to conduct research in isotopic and elemental analysis of extraterrestrial materials. The initial appointment will be for one year, with renewal for up to two additional years conditional upon performance and availability of funding.
A PhD in geochemistry or cosmochemistry is required. Geochemical facilities available include an Element XR high resolution ICP-MS, a Neptune Multicollector ICP-MS, a Class-100 clean laboratory, New Wave UP193FX and UP213 laser ablation systems, etc. Applicants with experience in magnetic sector mass spectrometry, ICP-MS, and clean lab geochemical techniques, will be given preference.

PhD Position Vacancy, University of Hamburg, Faculty of Geosciences, Institute of Biogeochemistry and Marine Chemistry PhD Position
The Institute of Biogeochemistry and Marine Chemistry invites applicants for a PhD position in the project “Modern and Past Climates” which will be carried out within the framework of a DFG research group subject to the approval of the project. The topic of the work is the investigation of recent sedimentation processes and the reconstruction of Holocene fluctuations of the Asian monsoon system from lake sediments. The position is to be filled by August 1st 2010 and the short-term contract is limited to three years. A project application for a second term of three years is planned.

Responsibilities: Research project with the opportunity to complete a doctoral dissertation
Within this framework associates have the opportunity to further their academic education, in particular through the completion of a doctoral dissertation. The data obtained in the project may be used for the dissertation.
Specific Area(s) of Responsibility: In this project sinking and suspended particles as well as sediments from Asian lakes of different altitudes will be investigated mainly focussing on organic-geochemistry and stable isotopes. The aims are a quantification of organic matter sources and transformation and the reconstruction of the recent climatic history. The work includes fieldwork and exchange and discussion with partners from other subprojects. Requirements: Academic degree (Diploma or MSc) in geosciences or geochemistry. Experience in scientific work and organic-geochemical or isotope analyses. Enthusiasm and endurance in field work.
